College Scholarship Program Details

2017 Saint Peter Lutheran Church Scholarship Program

Saint Peter Lutheran Church will be offering a $500 scholarship in the spring of 2017. This program will be open to those who are beginning their first or second year of post-high school education, and will be a one-time award. Scholarship Applications for 2017 are due in the church office by Sunday,
April 23, 2017. No late applications will be considered.

This program will be available to individuals planning to continue their education beyond high school in accredited or formalized educational programs. The purpose of this program is to recognize, through a one-time financial assistance award, those who have made meaningful contributions to and have been significantly involved in the life of Saint Peter’s community. Additionally, sons and daughters of Saint Peter who have been similarly involved in the congregation’s life, and who have been called to attend seminary or other rostered ministry programs, may be eligible for additional ongoing financial support as part of this scholarship program.

To be eligible for the program, the applicant will have:
• demonstrated caring, integrity, and strong Christian values;
• shown both a current and ongoing significant and meaningful involvement and participation in Saint Peter’s community through participation in activities and programs, serving as a positive example to other Saint Peter youth;
• been, or will be, accepted to an accredited or formalized post-high school educational program;
• completed the attached application form with references and submitted it to the church office by the published scholarship application deadline. A key piece of this application will be an essay written by the applicant (minimum of 500 words);
• successfully participated in an interview with one or more members of the Saint Peter Scholarship Committee;
• agreed to be present at and participate in a designated worship service to receive the scholarship award.

Eligibility to apply for this scholarship is not affected by:
• the high school the applicant has attended;
• the post-high school educational program the applicant plans to attend – provided it is duly accredited and/or formalized;
• the course of study the applicant plans to pursue – provided that it leads to a degree or certification;
• the applicant’s family’s involvement or attendance at Saint Peter. Though it is believed that family involvement is what makes a youth’s commitment to the church meaningful and long-lasting, only the individual applicant’s involvement and commitment will be considered;
• the applicant’s – and his or her family’s – financial need or ability to pay for higher education. Applicants will not be asked to provide financial statements.
