Mythbusters
Myth #1: Joining a ministry team is a lifelong commitment.
False. While we want everyone to stay involved, joining a committee is not a life sentence. We want you to volunteer with a team that you are passionate about. However, we understand that doing the same thing can get monotonous. Offering to help one team – does not mean that you can’t volunteer for another. We encourage you to bounce around and try new things.
Myth #2: Being on a committee takes a lot of time.
False. There are many levels of involvement. Most teams meet once a month for an hour. Outside of that – the time commitment depends on what your team is working on and how much you want to participate. You are free to decide how much time you feel like committing.
Myth #3: I don’t have anything to contribute.
False. God has blessed us all with unique talents and has challenged each of us to use these spiritual gifts to do his work. You do not need experience to join a mission team. Some of the best volunteers are people who come with an open mind and can contribute in many different ways.
Now that we have “busted” many of the common myths about volunteering, how do you get involved? The best way to find out how to help is to ask one of the church leaders. Simply asking a leader what kind of work is needed will normally open up a world of opportunities.
